5 Favorite Things You Like Most About Your Home (Video Transcription)

Hi, George Belleville here. If you’re watching this video, it’s probably because we sent it to you as part of our listing process, but if you did find it somewhere else or on our YouTube video, welcome. My name is George Belvel. I’m a realtor in Maryland.

In this video, I want to talk to you about why we capture the five things you like most about the house you’re selling or that you’re going to miss the most, and what we do with them, and how it’s important for your marketing.

One of the things we’ve learned over the years is we basically stopped doing any print marketing with flyers and brochures and things like that because people just don’t take them up. We would have a house for sale, we’d print out a hundred flyers, the house sells, and we go there and there are 98 flyers left. And it’s really because everything is available on the phone now. Everybody can get all the information they need about the house, so there’s just no reason for them to pick up that flyer and it’s kind of a waste of money.

The other reason is that they know that’s just realtors marketing and that, you know, they’re somewhat suspicious of that and rightfully so because some of the things you read in those are exaggerations at a minimum. So people don’t have a lot of confidence in those.

So what we started doing is we have you tell us or you can have the cards and write it yourself if your handwriting is what you’re comfortable with. And we take your five favorite things that you like about the house or that you’re going to miss and we write them out on a card.

It’s just you know a greeting not a greeting card, a note card size card and we stage those around the house to highlight the things that you like the most about the property. For example, we’re going to miss sitting on this porch watching the sunrise or the sunset or something like that.

The reason we do that is because as much as it’s square feet and numbers and prices and things like that, people really buy houses based on emotion. And anytime we can connect the person who’s looking at the house to the house emotionally, that gives us a great advantage. It makes people feel what it might be like to live there, and that’s really what captures people’s attention. And this is a great way to do it.

Also, quite honestly, it takes the realtor out of the equation, and it’s more like communication between the current owner and the hopefully future owner. And it has great results. We get great feedback on it at open houses. I’ve had people actually cheer up at some of the things that people have written.

So we’re going to ask you about that. We’re going to ask you for your five favorite things. If you want, you can write them down or you can just email us what they are. I’ll write out the cards and drop them by the house. I do have pretty good handwriting.

I wanted to explain that because it’s one of those things, if someone is out and they look at four or five different houses that don’t have that, they’re going to remember your house and they’re going to remember how your house made them feel. And as I said, that’s how people decide which house to buy.
